The Convention Delegates serve as one of the main lines of communication between their parish and the Diocese. They are responsible for disseminating data to and from the local congregation through Convocation meetings, which are meetings that are held in between the Diocesan Conventions and bring together delegates from several parishes. The Delegates also attend the annual Diocesan Convention as the voting representatives from their parish. Delegates and alternate Delegates are elected by the congregation at the Annual Meeting of their parish and are actively involved in the life of their Parish and the Diocese.
The Delegates also meet monthly along with the Vestry on the third Wednesday of each month. These meetings are open to the congregation and we warmly welcome youth to attend.
Larry Hopen – Delegate
I first attended Church of the Transfiguration in January of 2005; that’s when my partner John Purcell and I became Episcopalians. Both of us came from different religious backgrounds but had not practiced for many years until we met a church member who encouraged us to attend. We found our church family and got involved in different ministries and activities. We’ve never looked back.
I have an extensive work history beginning at age 11, and a list too long to mention here; but, it could be a topic of conversation if you are so inclined. I retired about 6 years ago and now have time to work in my yard, attend concerts and plays, travel, take language and P.E. classes, and play cards (bridge is my favorite).
This is my second term as a delegate. I am looking forward to the next 3 years meeting with delegates from other churches and reporting to the vestry all that goes on in our diocese.
Jennie Kelly – Delegate
I started going to Transfiguration five years ago. I grew up in Illinois and moved to St. Peters 15 years ago. I live with my partner Dana and we have a cat, Kallie, and a very active soft-coated wheaten terrier named Riley. With 8 nieces and 1 nephew, I spend quite a bit of time visiting with family and traveling near and far. I enjoy running, biking and swimming as well as reading and going to movies.
Claire Reynolds – Delegate
I have been attending Transfiguration since 2008. I got married in August 2015 and live in St. Charles with my husband and our dog Toybox, who is a Border Collie Pit Bull Terrier Mix. We adopted her from Stray Rescue of St. Louis and she’s the sweetest! In December 2015, I graduated from Fontbonne University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and now working on my Master’s in Reading. Currently, I am a substitute teacher for the Fort Zumwalt School District and actively looking for a full time teaching job. During my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time outdoors, and hanging out with my family.
Cathy Murphy-Maijer – Alternate Delgate
My wife, Kelly and I came to Transfiguration in 2013. We were looking for an inclusive and loving church and we found it here at Transfiguration. I am active in ECW (Episcopal Church Women), Third Tuesday for Seniors and Book Club. Recently, I joined Fellowship. Gardening, reading and genealogy are my hobbies. We have 3 furry kids; Ming, Zoe and Leah.
